Mahasiswa.co.id - As students move through different grades, they learn more and more complex knowledge and skills. Learning goes from easy to hard. For example, solving simple equations in elementary school is easy, but discussing abstract theories in university is hard. As we progress through school, there’s one common issue: we sometimes forget the fundamentals when we move on to more advanced levels.
‎
‎Why does this happen?
‎
‎First, schools focus on advanced content. This makes students focus on new materials. They assume that students already know fundamental skills. Reading comprehension, clear writing, and simple math problems are often taken for granted, even though they are essential to understanding advanced concepts.Second, there is a common perception that basic lessons are “too easy” or no longer relevant. This way of thinking makes students feel like they aren’t important.

But education is like building a house. No matter how tall the house is, it cannot stand if the foundation is weak.It is very important to learn the basics. Students may have a hard time understanding data, making arguments, or solving problems even if they have studied advanced theories. If students don’t have a solid foundation, they won’t learn as well.To fix this, teachers and students need to work together.

Teachers should make sure that students learn fundamental skills in higher education, and students need to keep improving their basic skills instead of giving up. True education strengthens and expands old knowledge, not replaces it.It’s not a race to forget the basics; it’s a lifelong process of building on them. By focusing on the basics of learning, we make sure that higher education is not only advanced but also meaningful and sustainable.
